A Busy Snow Day

Main Gallery Strike Jan 2011

We hope that you are staying warm! Despite last night’s snow storm, KW|AG is humming this morning. In day three of strike, the curatorial team is well underway with the dismantling of the Fall 2010 exhibitions and preparations for the installation of the new. Keep in mind that the entire transition is accomplished in the space of about 5 days. This is an even more impressive feat when you consider an exhibition like sciencefictionsciencefair, who’s works are made up of many small parts and require careful and deliberate deconstruction. After the strike and clean-up, the art is carefully stored or prepared for transportation and the Gallery walls are painted and patched, ready for the new work to arrive.

In the midst of this transition, we have the added energy of artist in residence Michelle Allard who, with the help of community volunteers is working in the co|lab space to create 50,000 rolls of paper in preparation for her Materialscape exhibition in the Eastman Gallery. (Her blog is coming soon.) Artists Colwyn Griffith (Something About Time) and Robert Linsley (A Geomorphic Fantasy) have also arrived at the Gallery, completing our rather full house.

If you’re experiencing cabin fever already, drop by and check out the creation of Michelle Allard’s Materialscape. She’ll be happy to chat with you and share her insights into the project.
